Not just a gateway to the lovely island of Barbados but a hub for transits to islands in the east and south Caribbean, Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) can be found around 16 km / 10 miles to the south-east of Bridgetown, in the parish Christ Church and in the Seawell area. Close to Gibbons, Saint Martins, Surfers Point and Woodbourne, the Grantley Adams Airport has undergone a huge makeover and has been transformed from a Third World shack into a truly modern and fully equipped terminal.

Improvements are ongoing and the new terminal has a light, airy ambience that perfectly complements its tropical island setting. Christ Church Airport has a good selection of shops and restaurants, and some of the airline lounges feature business and conference facilities. Prominent airlines include Air Jamaica, Caribbean Airlines, Caribbean Star, LIAT and AVG Air.


Taxis, shuttles and buses provide ample ground transportation options between Grantley Adams Airport, Christ Church, Bridgetown and the coastal resort of Oistins, with very convenient hours of operation. Many people enjoy sunbathing at the beach of Oistins, as they can watch the numerous large planes coming into land on this busy flight path.

There is only one car rental company permitted to operate from Christ Church's Grantley Adams Airport itself. However, several other hire car agencies have offices off-site. Three airline lounges have business and conference facilities with adequate equipment, while two hotels located near to the airport offer conference rooms with the latest in multimedia gadgetry.
